Description
Time is Short: Highly Effective Time Management Strategies According to the Qur’an and Sunnah, upon the Understanding of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah and the Best GenerationThis work presents a carefully curated selection from the writings of the كبار علماء أهل السنة والجماعة (leading authorities of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah), who have expounded upon the reality of time (al-waqt), discipline, productivity, and the preservation of one’s life through righteous action. It does not belong to the genre of modern productivity literature; rather, it is rooted in the foundational sources of Islam, from which the authentic conception of time management—fiqh al-waqt—is derived, in accordance with the Qur’an and the Sunnah, as understood by the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ (the best generation).Within the creed and methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah, time is regarded as one of the greatest blessings bestowed by Allah ﷻ upon His servants. It is not subject to renewal, nor can it be reclaimed once it has passed; rather, it diminishes continuously, bearing witness either for or against the الإنسان. Thus, time is not viewed merely as a worldly resource, but as a divine trust (amānah) for which every individual will be held accountable before Allah ﷻ.Allah ﷻ magnifies the شأن of time by swearing an oath by it in His Book:“By time, indeed mankind is in loss…”(Sūrat al-‘Aṣr, 103:1–2)This عظیم oath establishes the comprehensive loss that encompasses mankind, except for those who actualize īmān, perform righteous deeds, enjoin the truth, and persevere upon it. The imām of the Sunnah, al-Shāfi‘ī رحمه الله, rightly stated: “If Allah had revealed only Sūrat al-‘Aṣr as a proof against mankind, it would have sufficed,” due to its encompassing of the اصول of success in both abodes.Accordingly, the believer—upon the منهج methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah—is obligated to approach time with vigilance, discipline, and a living awareness of accountability (murāqabah), structuring his life in accordance with the commands of Allah ﷻ and the guidance of His Messenger ﷺ. This work, therefore, constitutes a call to a profound return to the Qur’anic and Prophetic understanding of time, discipline, and accountability, as embodied by the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ.It enables the reader to extract enduring principles and practical methodologies from the revealed texts, fostering true productivity grounded in obedience and accompanied by barakah (divine blessing). Moreover, it invites the emulation of the precise and purposeful habits of the best generation, whose relationship with time was defined by sincerity, prioritization, and constancy upon righteous action.Core Salafi Principles on Time (Extracted from the Foundations of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah)الوقت هو رأس مال العبد (Time is the capital of the servant):It is the أصل asset by which his success or ruin is determined in this world and the Hereafter.إضاعة الوقت أعظم من الموت (Wasting time is more severe than death):For death severs one from the الدنيا, whereas wasting time severs one from Allah ﷻ and the attainment of eternal reward.البركة في الطاعة لا في الكثرة (Barakah lies in obedience, not in mere quantity):True productivity is measured by conformity to the Sharī‘ah, not by numerical output.تنظيم الوقت عبادة وليس عادة (Organizing time is an act of worship, not a mere habit):It enters into إحسان العمل and the fulfillment of obligations according to their rightful priorities.العلم يحتاج إلى ضبط الزمن (Knowledge requires disc
